aeroplane
about alex franka
Design is my aeroplane. It allows me to do all sorts of acrobatics without living the comfort of my desk. I've been referred to as a hybrid-designer, because I'm fluent both in print and web/interactive design and production. That said, I'm currently doing some 3D modeling workshops with Maya and Cinema 4D, as well as integration of 3D and motion graphics software. I don't have anything 3D in my portfolio yet, but please take a look at samples of the work I've done in print and web/interactive, to get a sense of my skills.

I have to confess that I enjoy web/interactive work more than print, but I do get print assignments every once in a while. For web/interactive design I rely on current web-design and web-standards trends, and on scripting tools such as JQuery and ActionScript. Even though I don't consider myself a web developer per-se, I like toying around with JS, PHP, and seeing what comes out.
Some of the clients I've worked with in the San Francisco Bay Area include Benefit Cosmetics, Cutwater, Grey SF, WDFA Marketing, JWT Boom (now defunct), The Online 401k, The Swiss Consulate of San Francisco, Digital Pickle, and others.

On a more personal level, when I'm not designing I can be found browsing the internet scavenging for new web-design tricks, strumming my acoustic guitar and learning new chords, reading (mostly non-fiction, latin american fiction, or essays); watching Bear Grylls survive the wilderness yet one more time!, riding my bicycle, going on hikes around the bay area, taking pictures around town, or just walking around the city.
